Through my business, Desire to Dance, I began teaching students of
all ages the art of social dancing in the summer of 2006. As the decade
progressed, the development of trust and personal accountability to my
students has always been of the highest importance. Several
students who began in 2006, are still continuing their studies of dance with me
today.
Graduating from the State University of New York, College at Buffalo, with a BS degree in Education in 1971, I have since applied my skills as a teacher to various career disciplines and venues, including dancing.
DANCE EDUCATION
Having learned my first steps at local dance schools here in Florida, my appreciation for the guidance and training I received at these schools is genuine. They are listed below. On a personal note, the individual teachers who have helped me through the metamorphosis from student to instructor will always have my very special gratitude.

AFFILIATIONS
Ongoing membership and participation in USA Dance, which is a national volunteer organization promoting dancing as a social activity and as a competitive sport, has opened the door of opportunity for my personal development as a dancer and as an educator.
- Founder: Vero Beach chapter of USABDA (now USA Dance). Served as the chapter's first President through 2005.
- Founder: "The Dancesations" ballroom dance performance troupe from 2003 to 2005. Organizer, choreographer, coach and team dancer.
- Competitor: Central Florida Dancesport Championships, Orlando, FL. March 2003 competing in several categories of ballroom dance.
- Youth Team Coach 2001 - working with local teens to learn, experience and perform ballroom dancing.
- Volunteer Instructor: teaching Latin dancing at weekly "Salsa Socials" held in Vero Beach, FL. from 2003 through 2004.
- Participant: Intercontinental Dancesport Festival, Daytona Beach, FL. attending in 2002 and 2005. All Florida Dance Spree, Orlando, FL. attending as Chapter President 2001, 2002 and 2005.
- Guest speaker: on the Rhett Palmer radio show and on television interview shows with Marcia Littlejohn to promote ballroom dancing in the Vero Beach area.
- Event Organizer: Indian River Mall's "Swingin' Sundays in June" an interactive dance performance experience presented in 2001. Also, Indian River Medical Center's fundraiser, "An Evening With Melody Layne & the Parke Frankenfield Swing Band", was held in 2004.

"Dancing with Vero's Stars" fundraiser for the Indian River County Healthy Start Coalition, participating instructor both in 2009 and 2010. Awarded the "Grand Prize" with star dance partner Rebecca F. Emmons in 2010.
